Resident complaint: A polite young man knocked on my door to “let me know” that they would be doing some work on a neighbour’s house. This then lead to him giving me a leaflet and him asking me if I would like to get a quote on upgrading my windows. I said no thank you, but he insisted that it would be a no obligation quote which would be valid for twelve months encase I changed my mind.
Alarm bells went off because I had an unpleasant experience with another door to door window salesman a few months back which actually mirrors this one in the end. After about 10 minutes chatting he convinced me to allow them to simply have a look and give me a no obligation quote. However I would first get a phone call from his head office to arrange a time for them to come round to quote.
5 minutes later like with the company before I received phone call from a salesman to arrange the time. He was polite at first however when he told me the quote would be around £5000 (subject to an actual inspection) which is supposedly half price I said no thank you. He then got stroppy and tried to bully me. It was like an episode out of Rogue Traders, he said things like “Do you like wasting peoples time?” and “why did you give us your details if you weren't interested?”. I explained that I had initially said no thanks but his salesman repeatedly asked to just be given the chance to give a “no obligation 12 month valid quote!”. He did not stop arguing with me until I told him in no uncertain terms to get lost. I complained to his boss who simply said that I was wasting their time because I had passed on my information and not walked away from their door to door guy or closed the door on him!
Our advice: Do not give them your information, if you need to get new windows support local and get a quote from a local supplier.
